Hello everyone!
So, this week I switched up my
meditative setting. I usually just sit in my computer chair, this week I
gathered some big fluffy pillows and sat on the floor. I was trying to
better immerse myself in meditation and it definitely worked! The person
that I chose to focus on was my mother, I have always looked up to her
and been very close to her. After this exercise was over, first I smiled
to myself, then I called my mom and had a long talk with her, telling
her how much she means to me and how much she has shaped me into the
person that I am.
Meditation has really been helping me with my psychological wellness, it helps me to step back
from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and just think about the
small things that I am grateful for. It is so easy to just get stuck in a
routine of sleep, eat, work, school and not give yourself time to just
enjoy life. Meditation has helped me realize how important it is to just
go outside and look at the stars or the sunrise and think about how
thankful I am that I get the opportunity to look at these miraculous
happenings each day.
I plan to continue meditation so that my journey of psychological and spiritual wellness can continue.
My husband must have been getting jealous of my "good mood" because he
is now wanting to start meditating with me! I am rather excited because
hopefully he can experience the psychological and spiritual wellness
that I have begun to experience.
The saying "One
cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" is referring to the
fact that you cannot truly help someone else go down a path of spiritual
wellness if you have not experienced it yourself. This applies to the health and wellness profession because as spiritual and psychological wellness are being used more, doctors,
or counselors, of this practice need to have an understanding of this
in their own life before trying to teach practices to others.
I think as someone who will be in the wellness profession after graduating, I definitely
have an obligation to my patients to develop my psychological,
physical, and spiritual health. Patients who are in need of help,
whether it by psychologically, physically, or spiritually will not only
benefit more from having a professional who practices these things them
self, but also will listen more because it will be obvious if these
things are part of their wellness professional's life.
I
implement spiritual and psychological wellness in my life in many ways,
and plan to develop even more ways as time goes on. Spiritually, I use
church, meditation, and also star gazing as a way to develop this
wellness. Looking up at the stars always makes me think about how I am
so tiny compared to all of the world, yet my life can and will make an
impact. Psychologically, meditation and deep breathing have really
helped me. Meditation and deep breathing both give me a sense of peace and relaxation.
I
hope that everyone is enjoying going on whatever journey this class is
taking them down! As someone who did not even think about integral
wellness before this class, I have benefited in a big way.

Hello Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post. This post was meaningful and interesting. I agreed with everything you said.I think you have made great points about meditation.I also agree with knowing to the fullest about things you are enforcing and experiencing things you believe in before you refer a patient.so you can give them the information they need.
Kristen,
ReplyDeleteAnother master piece! You always take the exercises and find new meanings. I like that you got your husband interested in doing this, I think it well help you both relax. Also sweet that these exercises draw you closer to your family and to your mom. Mothers are unsung heroes and I’m guessing you made her feel like a million bucks by acknowledging her importance and impact in your life.
Like you my thoughts on this subject were more form the outside looking in. Now that I’ve peeled back the layers on the onion I’ll freely shed the happy tears of becoming better enlighten and continue my journey beyond school. I look forward to practicing these techniques with my Thai gal friend and seeing how they can have a positive impact on our lives. Thanks for the timely post and I hope your Halloween was Spooktacular....

Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean I have started to mediate or even listening to meditation music as I complete assignments for class has helped me to focus and relax. Also with the meditation has reduced my stress and increased my patientce level. I have tried the breathing exercises will going for my walk and listening to nature has made a huge improvement in my overall health and spiritual growth.
Kristen excellent BLOG and I enjoyed reading it. It motivated me to ask my wife to join in the meditation also. She workout every morning and asked me to join her so this motivation you inspired me to ask her to do meditation too. This will help us come together better as one. As a Health and Wellness director I can motivates others to do the same because I have experienced it myself. The best teacher is one with the personal experience. Thanks for the motivation!

Hi Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI loved your post! I think that it's awesome that your husband wants to start meditating too! That's surely the first step in sharing your experiences and in helping others understand the true benefits of meditation and overall wellness. I also find myself star gazing quite often, as it truly blows my mind to think of how small we really hard compared to the large picture. To be able to gaze into the sky and enjoy the sunrise or sunset is truly a blessing.
Kristen,
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post and definitely in reading it I can feel your confidence in what you were sharing with your readers. You are correct we may be tiny in retrospect to what we see in the Universe but we are still a part of this planet and what we do does matter. When in nature I always find that its viewing makes me feel good in general and motivates me to doing something more positive. Have you ever heard the expression "Children learn what they live"? Well this also can pertain to how professional life due to how we act, react, talk, etc. is seen by the patients and clients. If we express ourselves positively they then will be more likely to trust what they see instead of hearing. We can do this expression in our confidence just as your words displayed to all that is reading your post.
