Hello Class! Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! I did this exercise after completing my rough draft of the project due this week, it was much needed! lol
I really enjoyed the loving kindness exercise. However, I found the subtle mind exercise a little easier for me as a beginner with these types of exercises, and therefore more beneficial. Initially, I was annoyed that there was less talking in this exercise than the loving-kindness exercise, but about halfway through I realized that I actually like this better. Less talking allowed me to not become so easily distracted and to focus more fully on clearing my mind and inhaling and exhaling slowly. I really enjoyed the subtle mind exercise and felt extremely refreshed after completing it, I plan to continue using this audio at least a few more times and am looking for more like this on the internet.
The main connection of spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness that really stands our for me is that if you are free of stress spiritually, the mind is able to be clear and you are physically able to be less tense and more relaxed. This being said, I find doing these exercises such as the loving-kindness exercise and the subtle mind exercise to be very beneficial when done before going to the gym. This may not work for everyone, but I feel very relaxed after doing these breathing and mind clearing exercises and have noticed that when stretching before exercise, I am more limber when relaxed, as my body is not as tense as if I go the gym straight from work.

Kristen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the early post and giving me someone to respond to. I think I enjoyed the loving kindness exercise more only for the fact that you get to talk to a higher healing or inner power. I did find the subtle mind exercise easier also. I think both are great if one makes a commitment to utilize them. I hope to use either or in the future after next term, no more classes then so I’ll be willing to commit some time and use all of the skills we learn from our classes. Like Napoleon Dynamite I’ll have Bow staff skills, wolverine hunting skills, Loving Kindness Skills, GOSH Kip stay home and eat all the frigging chips. Oops sorry went on a small Napoleon Dynamite rant. Anyhow keep up the great work and happy learning.

Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI too enjoy the less animated guided meditations. I do tend to fall into a deeper state of serenity. I can see how these exercises before the gym would allow you to be more flexible. I like to do this type of exercise early in the morning just after fifteen minutes of stretching rather than before stretching. This allows me to center myself for the day. I notice when I pull away from these exercise I get lazy and my mind becomes very fogged.
Hello Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI believe the loving kindness exercise was more calming and relaxing than the subtle mind exercise as it brought such inner peace, as I was able to forget about the worries within my life and focused directly on resolving those issues. When we are at one with ourselves we can encounter and overcome all that life throws at us head-on, and in the end gain the victory over extenuating circumstances.
Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean I enjoyed the loving kindness better than the subtle mind. The subtle mind exercise was harder to stay focused, I liked the ocean waves to me are more calming and relaxing to myself I have always loved the ocean, beach I think about collecting seas shells as a kid and walking on the beach as the waves come in and splash against my feet and legs.
hello Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI am with Samantha Colcord. I really enjoyed the loving kindness better than the subtle mind. Loving kindness was simple and easier to stay focused.
Hello Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI feel that I struggled more with the Subtle Mind, what made this exercise easier for you?
